Many informal industries, including the recycling of e-waste, provide desperately needed income for families, yet involve handling toxic materials that cause disease and even death.

In Agbogbloshie, Ghana Pure Earth helped create a small e-waste recycling start-up using mechanized tools to strip copper from the plastic coating. Workers now have an option to the poisonous process of burning wires, and receive a higher re-sale price for cleaner metals.

Pure Earth is working in Africa, and many other locations around the world, to provide informal laborers with safer methods so they can continue their work and support their families.

This year’s Benefit Ball will explore these collaborative efforts and ask for your investment to expand our innovative work.
